About My Journey

July 31, 2012

My journey continues to be a roller coaster ride but through it all I managed to get 13lbs away from my fitness goal only to gain 10lbs back 😦 WELL, I am not down about it because soda was my in-school alcohol during my student teaching. My starting weight was 214lbs. My goal weight is 155lbs.   I manage to get down to 167lbs. My current weight is 177lbs.  I can wear as small as a  size 8 in skirts (depending on the brand and cut). I can wear as small as a small in shirts, and size 12 in jeans and pants. I can wear as small as a 8 or 10 in dresses. I of course still have hips and butt which is why I still wear 12s in pants. I have had to either donate or give away over half my clothes. Some of the clothes I had before I gained weight was even too big. Thrifting has helped me replace the majority of my wardrobe and I love thrift shopping.

My ultimate goal is to run a half and full marathon before the end of 2013. I love running and it has been a major part of me not gaining weight back. SOOOOO, if you have not reached your goal yet PLEASE don’t give up. The smaller you get the harder it is to lose pounds. You will still lose inches. Let’s continue to make the world healthy, fit, and sexy!!

August 3, 2011

I will be the first one to say this journey has not
been an easy one. I have been on this fitness roller coaster since 2005. The
number one culprit for my weight issues was stress. I have never been an
emotional eater therefore I didn’t eat more because of stress. I just had poor
eating habits and wasn’t active. I also drank juice, tea, and sodas as if they
were water. My wakeup call was when I hit the 200lb mark. I went to the doctor
for a regular check up in 2006 and toppled the scale at 200lbs. TRUST ME that
did not sit too well with me at all. As a matter of fact I called both my
mother and god mother crying as if the doctor told me I had a deadly disease.
So of course that led me to working out, trying fad diets, diet pills, and
other things. Eventually, I fell off the wagon and reverted back to my old
habits. Even though I was bigger I still looked smaller in appearance. Fast
forward to 2009 and that’s when reality REALLY hit me.

Most people who know me know I have enough clothes
and shoes to open my own boutique. A lot of my shirts started fitting tight
around my arms and I got the baby roll in my back. By the time 2010 hit I was up
to a women’s size 16 and I could not fit over half the clothes I owned. I was no
longer able to just grab something off the rack and wear it effortlessly. Not
only was I going straight to the plus size section of the store size 16 was
starting to fit too snug. LAWD, I could not take anymore. Plus size clothes
cost more than regular clothes. That was a NO NO for me. It’s bad enough I had
to shop on the plus size but paying extra was torture.

So what did I do next? Get serious about my health because
I was disgusted with what I was seeing in my full body mirror. I love taking
pictures so I had TONS of reminders of how I use to look versus what I was
looking like right now. The stretch marks I received on my arms were the last straw. I kicked
off my fitness journey participating in “Scale Back Alabama” with some
co-workers. Of course you have to weigh in on the first day. I was now toppling
the scale at 214; SIGH!!! That was so depressing I let myself get so far gone.
The goal of Scale Back Alabama was to lose 10 lbs in ten weeks. Not only did I
lose the 10 I lost a total of 14lbs. After scale back was over I jumped right
into two more challenges that ran together. One was a 30 day cardio challenge
and the rules were no fast food, fried food, or alcohol for 30 days. I lost an
additional 12 lbs during that challenge. I was on a roll then and didn’t stop
or look backwards. As of today I have lost a total of 34lbs and currently weigh
180lbs. I felt like I won a million dollars the day I saw the scale go less
than 200lbs. I feel great and I am wearing a size 12. I’m only 20lbs away from
my goal and on my 4th 30 Day cardio challenge with my fitness group.
Those ladies have been a HUGE support system and without God’s glory and them I
would probably be still in the 200+ club. I also use the app MyFitnessPal to
document what I eat everyday and log my workouts. I will talk more about
MyFitnessPal next week. This app is the best thing to happen to me since I’ve
been on this journey. It really makes you watch what you eat and you will never
eat the same again. TRUST ME you will not eat the same after using this app.

I have been overwhelmed and truly humbled by the
compliments and “keep up the great work” from friends, co-workers, and random
people I pass at work daily. I tell people they are used to seeing the
unhealthy me not how I use to look before I got my current job. So I decided to
blog about my journey and the things I have learned through this entire roller
coaster ride. I have tons of heath information I have read and saved since
2006. I’ve also worked with several different personal trainers so I know how
to work out on my own and what works for me. Please feel free to leave a
comment, workout tips, healthy recipits, or critique anything you read. Also,
if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask. I will make sure I post
medical and food topics supported with facts NOT just my personal opinion. My
goal is to tell my story hoping it will touch, encourage, and inspire someone else.
I do ask that you please be respectful and respect others who post on here as
well. I do reserve the right to delete your comment. SO, if you really are
serious about taking your health back join me and let’s make healthy sexy!!

I’m not going to change my take on anything I post because this blog is about ME!! Everything I post in regards to healthy and fitness is based on research and I ALWAYS support that research with links you can review for yourself. 24. I must say, as much as I enjoyed reading what you had to say, I couldnt help but lose interest after a while. Its as if you had a fantastic grasp to the topic matter, but you forgot to include your readers. Perhaps you should think about this from extra than 1 angle. Or maybe you shouldnt generalise so very much. Its better if you think about what others may have to say instead of just heading for a gut reaction to the topic. Think about adjusting your personal believed process and giving others who may read this the benefit of the doubt.

  30. friend, excuse me if this is a bit off the subject, but… This will make anybody upset: Diets really make you add pounds over time which has become more and more evident in the excessive weight epidemic that\’s negatively effecting this fast food, nominal activity era. Are you concerned that stadium seating have

to be increased to aid the rise in

individuals growing, ahem…girth? This implies that we are transforming into a much larger country (and by

no means in an exceedingly great way) of

people than we have ever have previously and that

is before two decades only. Our young people suffer from overweight related

circumstances for instance having diabetes in addition to cardiovascular illnesses.

I read that in a research project 70 obese North american children in the age group of six to nineteen had been exposed to

several battery of checks to check out the actual result that the eating routine full of fat had on their own youthful

figures. The results have been eye opening. All was cursed with

high cholesterol levels as well as were inside the high-risk group of acquiring heart disease and heart malfunction that a few individuals are already

    revealing signs and symptoms of.

Could there really be any sort of hope

    for everybody? I think the

correct answer is of course. Apparently

virtually all we end up needing is some diet and exercise. We almost all will need to start doing it Immediately!
